This initiative will:

  • promote post high-school attendance at university, community-based colleges, or career and technical colleges;

  • strengthen family, school, community, and educational partnerships to ensure student success;

  • increase parents’ ability to prepare, plan for, and support their student’s transition to postsecondary education;

  • facilitate informed decision-making about postsecondary educational choices.

The CDA will provide comprehensive family education that will help caregivers directly support student education outcomes, including high school completion and postsecondary search, application, enrollment, and success.

The CDA will partner with the school and district leadership, appropriate school guidance counselors, and partner with all school instructional staff to recruit students and their families to participate in a college readiness program.

Families participating in the program will develop strategies to:

➡️ Discover their student’s educational and career interests

➡️ Establish academic and professional goals

➡️ Identify and apply to the colleges, universities, and departments that will help students achieve their goals

➡️ Locate human and financial resources that facilitate college student success

THE PRIMARY OUTCOME OF THE COLLEGE DREAM ACADEMY IS IMPROVED COLLEGE READINESS AND COLLEGE ATTENDANCE RATES OF PARTICIPANTS WITHIN ONE YEAR OF GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL. 

Students and families will complete the following steps toward college selection and enrollment:

➡️ Attend the CDA learning modules

➡️ Apply to at least 1 university and 1 community-based college

➡️ Complete FAFSA

➡️ Visit at least 1 college or university

Family stipends of up to $2,500 TO OFFSET ANY LOSS IN JOB WAGES, ADDED CHILDCARE SUPPORT COSTS, ETC. WHILE PARTICIPATING IN THE WORKSHOP SERIES; AND

  • ➡️ Independent college visits, totaling no more than $960 per family.

    ➡️ CDA-coordinated college visits from at least four Central Florida colleges and universities, to include: meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), ground transportation (ranging from $1,000-$2,000/trip), and general travel expenses.

  • Up to $2,500 per family to provide student participants with access to the necessary technology (i.e. laptop computer) and supplies to aid in their successful transition into the collegiate experience.
